Mission Statement

In my mind’s eye I imagine a small, bustling community amid trees, hills, forest, and plains turned into gardens with small unique dwellings, greenhouses, workshops and wells dotting the landscape. Researching and imagining how to create a small home of my own, most likely built with alternative building techniques or modalities, oriented with solar gain and design in mind, as well as considering roof slant for the solar optimal solar panel absorption, and other sustainability considerations, has been a fascination of mine for decades! These days (2020) our lives have been turned upside down by the COVID pandemic, forcing many to consider smaller, more energy-efficient, more affordable and sustainable housing alternatives that will serve us adequately into the uncertain future that lies before us. Quite frankly, Europe, the Middle East, and China are further ahead on innovations in these areas than North America, but shipping costs across oceans can be prohibitive. We need to license, manufacture, and build more cabin kits, dome greenhouses, and innovative smaller units that can stand alone or be combined to form a wide variety of affordable housing alternatives right here in the USA!

The main focus of this website is to discuss issues around living small, to present diverse alternative approaches, and to provide resources, connections, videos and weblinks, as well as how-to-build courses and hands-on workshops, principally within the continental US, with a western emphasis (since we are located in the northern New Mexico-southern Colorado region), to help you fulfill your own desires for simple living, and how to create your own home or homestead.  This includes sustainable building practices, animal husbandry, garden basics, including composting, mulching, cold frames and greenhouses, and understanding principles for developing sustainable lifestyles, communities and businesses.

By adding content gradually and conscientiously, while facilitating the search for tiny homes, small cabins, kits and pre-fabs that are currently on the market, and by linking to helpful websites and resources, our intention is to become a clearing house for information on this wide topic, and to make available “expert advice” about alternative building options, some of which tend to be cheaper to build, but can be physically quite time and labor intensive. You want to be well-informed about ALL the major considerations that you will face as a builder or homesteader before you begin so that you can have a realistic expectation for a successful completion of your project.

As a metaphysically-oriented individual and an astrologer (link to astrology2000.com), I believe that this transition we are undergoing is in preparation for what is known as “the New Earth” with a higher overall frequency and consciousness quotient than is present on the old Earth, which is experiencing its 6th mass extinction and environmental crisis. A back-to-the-Earth movement seems appropriate for many, who find living on the land to be healthier and more sustainable, prefer living simpler lives away from huge population centers, while earning a living online and/or through providing food, healing or services for your family or community. We are currently at the relative beginning of a huge Transitional Phase on our planet. We can’t know exactly what to expect in our futures, but we can prepare for this New World during and after the Shift, by down-sizing, using alternative energies whenever possible, and settling wherever we consider “safe” – away from urban areas, far from coastlines, away from wildfire areas, or moving from frigid regions to more temperate ones, with longer growing seasons. This website is to help you and me both find, build, or somehow create the Tiny Home of our dreams!
