About Us

We are a Mother-and-Daughter Team with Mom doing most of the writing and research, and my Millennial Daughter acting as Consultant on promotions and “web-sense”. I have owned 2 ordinary houses at different times of my life in Boulder, CO, but I had to sell each one when I lost a job and could not pay the mortgage.  Now I want to own something small and simple but paid off, or very nearly so.  For that to happen, I need to make some money.  But during COVID, jobs are both scarce and scary, especially for seniors. So my daughter suggested I start an affiliate website about small affordable housing, like Tiny Homes, because I have decades of interest and research into tiny homes, cabin kits, prefabs and such, as well as experience drawing hundreds of floorplans, buying books on small houses, doing lots of reading, taking a few classes, and some limited hands-on experience with alternative building materials, such as strawbale, earthship, cob, cordwood, earthbag, paper-hemp-or-air-crete blocks and forms, domes, yurts, treehouses, and under-the-hill hobbit houses with grass roofs. And there are probably other house-building materials I will discover along the way…

We intend to describe all of these and share links and contacts that will be helpful for those who decide to go further with their questions and purchases as they search for the right tiny or small home, whether prefab, cabin kit, building plans with instructions, a tiny home on wheels for sale, information about how to build your own cottage from scratch, and even some links to some rural land options. We will also have links for supplemental materials, such as composting toilets, grey-water systems, roof and foundation materials, small appliances, types of heating and cooling, solar options, recycling/reuse yards for building materials, doors and windows, used cabinets and appliances, etc. And there are a few tiny home communities or clusters of self-built homes within intentional communities, and some rentals that we intend to link to as well… as we discover such opportunities.

Right now we are in a housing crisis as well as a health crisis.  COVID job losses have led to many evictions and foreclosures and more will undoubtedly occur over the ensuing months or years because of the pandemic and its toll on jobs, the economy in general, and housing in particular. Many who have lost jobs will be seeking to downsize homes they can no longer afford, while others will realize that they need to move their families away from urban centers, burn zones, coastlines, or frigid winters where social distancing outdoors is difficult, and they may choose to settle for something simple and small. Still others who are now working from home may want a separate office in the backyard, or a She-Shed, a writing cabin, or an AirBnB guesthouse rental to help pay the bills, but which could also accommodate your kids if they have to move back in with you, or elderly parents for whom you could build a small in-law apartment on your property where you can watch over them. Maybe you need to receive clients at your business but its more affordable long-term to build a small office out-back than pay for office rent in the city. Or perhaps you decide to simply add on to your existing home to facilitate your kids schooling from home. Times are changing, and so are our collective housing needs.  Luckily, there are an amazing number of options, depending on your interest and income. We hope to provide information and options for many of these possibilities with helpful links and information so that you can embrace the future with confidence and not homelessness.

We are here to help! With my Daughter’s suggestions and support, we will build this website to assist you with your small housing needs while receiving a small income from affiliate relationships on some of the products I highlight or recommend in my articles. That way we are creating a win-win website for us both.  Welcome to TeenyTinyHome.com !

NOTE: My Daughter’s website and business is as a happiness coach and consultant at www.BerkeleyWellBeing.com, helping businesses and groups to evaluate and create positive work environments for their employees and clientele.
